You’ve Got The Wrong House, Villain 06

06

Before long, the ingredients were put in the sandwich and sprinkled with sauce. Only then did I pick up the tangled thread in front of me. Dinner was ready in a minute. Then I took the tray and moved to a room with a great view of the sunset. There was a river flowing at the back of the house, and a clear view of the sunset. The rent for this house on Grey Ferret was expensive.

Rattle.

In front of the window was a cozy armchair. I put the tray down on the window frame and sat there, looking out. A deep golden wave swept before my eyes.

‘It’s Peaceful.’

When I met the heroine, my mind was restless, but now I was calm again. After having a leisurely dinner, looking at the scenery, I got up from my seat.

Thump!

Then something fell on my feet and I looked down. A smooth arm made out of wood came into view. There were several mannequins all around the room. Sometimes even I was surprised when I entered the room in the dark, because it was made it look like a real person. I worked as a clerk in a coffee shop during the day, and was active in the dark world using my powers at night. Her ability as Arachne was quite useful, so she was commissioned from time to time to work and make money. These dolls were part of it. Rumors of a ghost living next door arose because I was a little careless using Arachne’s powers when I first moved into the house. I was was caught using thread to move things inside the house and practicing controlling these dolls like real people, in an empty house next door. That’s why there are rumors of ghosts living here in this neighborhood. But now that the heroine moved in next door, the rumors will be silenced. I kicked the doll’s arm back to the floor again and threw it in the corner. Yeah. There was no reason for me to get involved with the characters in the novel anyway. I’ll just have a normal routine like now. At that time, I was so calm. It’s been only half a year since I became the heroine’s neighbor, and the sweet peace I’ve thought of would be completely smashed.

Part 3

The villain and I

~

(Lakis’ POV?)

“Sigh…”

A night in which darkness lay deep. There was a man walking through the strange alleyway, where even moonlight wasn’t shining. The sound of disheveled breathing melted into the dim lit shadows.

“Shut up…It’s. Don’t come closer.”

There was not one passerby around, but the man mumbled to himself every now and then, as if he could hear a voice.

Thump…

His clothes were black and dark, but now they were covered in blood.

Surprisingly, however, the blood of the man who fell to the floor soon disappeared without a trace. The clouds finally scattered, and a full moon shone through them. The eyes exposed under his tangled hair, were glistening in the moonlight. His face was pale with cold sweat, but his blue eyes were shining like a beasts’.

The next moment his chin stiffened.

“I’m not dead, so …… shut up.”

A shrill whisper from the man’s mouth was spit out. However, it was not long before the man’s body finally plopped down.

—Lakis…!

Listening to the urgent voice echoing in his head, he exhaled a shallow breath. He wanted to curse at it because it was noisy, but he was as heavy as a rock, and his eyelids closed. As if they were being crushed by gravity.

The urgent voice that rang in his head gradually faded away.

I’m just… a little tired.

Yeah.

I’m just going to take a break.

I will never die like this.

But the darkness that was pushed was as sweet poison, and he inevitably was forced to kneel down as he succumbed to it.

Slowly he felt his consciousness go away, and he closed his eyes.

(End of POV?)

***

A coffee house located in the suburbs of Grey Ferret Street. It’s not in a busy street, it’s not a particularly pleasant shop, and they’re coffee wasn’t very good, also it hasn’t been a great place to visit since its opening. From the start, the coffee house’s business wasn’t very good. It was about two years ago that this place first began to emerge as a landmark. The reason for this was due to a person who was well known on Ferret Street.

“Ms. Yuri, two more coffees, please.”

“Yes, please wait a minute.”

Shortly after an accentless voice sounded, her black hair was tied loosely in one piece. The clerk, who had received the order from the customer, began to work.

Under her long black eyelashes, a pair of indifferent red eyes glowed with a hint of yellow from the late evening. Eyes were drawn to the graceful movements of her fine hands and slender wrists, which were exposed from under her sleeve. Even though she was dressed neatly with no special decorations, she was oddly gorgeous. It was a beautiful appearance that everyone had to stop to gaze at, she had a strange charm that no one could explain.

The woman with an expressionless look was a clerk who had been working here for two years. Her name was Yuri, but her age and background was unknown. So people just looked at her face and guessed that she was in her early twenties. However, others said that she was actually older than that, because she had a somewhat delicate atmosphere that seemed to say she was content with life.

“Here’s your coffee.”

In any case, the coffee house worker, Yuri, was a celebrity on Ferret street. Most people who came just to see her. The reason why the coffee house, which only flies inhabited two years ago, became so popular nowadays, was because word had spread far. In addition, the bitter and sour coffee taste was changed to something consumable since Yuri came.

The coffee sometimes tasted strangely sweet, and sometimes it tasted wonderful, and sometimes it tasted awful, so some people were concerned about it. Other people said that they would still drink it if she served it to them, so the cafe had good business.

“Huh? Is Ms. Yuri working this late today? What about Mr. Gilbert?

A regular customer who had just entered the store asked, after seeing Yuri standing by the coffee house even after her usual work hours ended.

“He wasn’t feeling well, so he went home early today.”

Gilbert was the owner of the coffee house. He was a pretty warm-hearted middle-aged man who ran the store alone. Since he divorced with his wife a long time ago, when Yuri first worked here, there were sometimes customers who told bad jokes about the two.

Whenever that happened, Gilbert would get angry at them. Gilbert was like a bear, he usually has a very gentle impression, but when he was angry, he became very bear-like. So when he got angry at them, those who had told the jokes were quick to shut up.

Of course, I, Yuri, didn’t pay any attention to them, but I used to cough at the jokes, and pretend to be gentle. I didn’t have a chance to get angry. She had never made a commotion in her usual standing at the coffee house. So at first, there were some people who thought her personality was submissive and deliberately became more naughty. Whenever she would have a trashy costumer like that, she would keep her usual cool look, making the line longer than usual. When that happens, they are forced to shut their mouths, feeling the chills of a hundred people. They would suddenly became stiff as if they were prey in the hands of the predator.

As a result, the working environment of the coffee house naturally become pleasant.

After working such a busy shift, Yuri left the store.

t/n: to clear up any confusion,

lakis was most likely fighting against the voices in his head (lol) and not an actual person? *sorry for the confusing ass chapter

also the perspectives are pretty wonky, like it switches between ‘I’ and ‘she/he’ a lot, but I try to make things work…

ANOTHER NOTICE!! i added illustrations from the promotional webtoon, into the prologue + chapters 1&2.. go back & see them if you want!!

Keep up the great work! Machine translations can be very confusing to decipher, especially if one is not proficient in the language (I tried with chinese and I almost killed myself). I appreciate your time and effort in trying to share this wonderful story in english with everyone. Don’t give up!! Fighting!

  8. I really enjoy this novel and I want to thank you for making the effort of translating it for us global fans all around the world. The only problem I have is understanding the content. I would recommend removing anything that you are unsure of translating and focus more on making the content understandable and easier for the readers to read by summarizing some of the paragraphs. But other than that, I really enjoyed reading this book so thank you for making it possible for me to read it comfortably in a language that I understand!

  9. I have no idea whether you’re still even checking back the old chapters, but I’m kinda OCD, and I have the free time for now, anyway. So, don’t mind me as I try to give some phrasing suggestions.

“The sound of disheveled breathing melted into the dim lit shadows.”

Disheveled is usually used in the context of clothes, fabric (the bedsheets were disheveled) or someone’s unkempt appearance. When it comes to breathing I think ‘irregular’ is more apt, as in:

“The sound of irregular breathing melted into the dim lit shadows.”

” Most people who came just to see her. ”

This sounds like an incomplete sentence. My suggestion would be:

“Most guests came just to see her.”

“The reason why the coffee house, which only flies inhabited two years ago, became so popular nowadays, was because word had spread far.”

‘flies inhabited’ isn’t a metaphor in English and it doesn’t quite makes sense literally either. The breaks in the sentence also felt weird, so my suggestion would be:

“The reason why the coffee house, which had been operating mostly empty two years ago, became so popular nowadays was because word had spread far.””

  10. i read a lot of manhua and books like this that have either bad grammar or switching povs and are confusing but even with the switching POVS your translation is really good and easy enough to understand so thank you so much for all your hard work
